The School of The New York Times

Inspiring the next generation of journalists, storytellers and readers.

Educating students on the power of journalism, media and digital storytelling.

The School of The New York Times designs programs for students who are passionate about storytelling, media and current events. They cultivate a diverse community of learners who aim to approach the world with the curiosity and open-mindedness of a journalist. Students engage with global issues, develop critical thinking skills, and learn to ask hard questions. Guided by journalistic principles, the curriculum empowers students to analyze the world, write with purpose and tell stories through innovative techniques. The lessons they learn here will inspire them to become truth-seekers and storytellers in their own right.

About The School of The New York Times

Teaching the standards, ethics and practices that define independent journalism and the values of The New York Times.

Every day, readers turn to The Times for credible reports and insights on important events and issues. Programs are designed to help students confront and engage with these issues head-on to develop an in-depth understanding of how headlines emerge, how stories are told and how history is made.

A curriculum that helps students develop media literacy and practice journalism.

The flow of accurate, meaningful news is essential to democracy. Equally important to an informed citizenry is the ever-growing reservoir of ideas and critical concepts to be explored and passed along from teacher to student. It is this emphasis on open dialogue, truth and accuracy that informs every aspect of our curriculum development.

Programs that help shape students into thoughtful, informed storytellers who want to engage with the world.

The School was created to provide students with inspiring experiences both inside and outside of the classroom. Students learn from New York Times journalists and other media professionals and go beyond the headlines into newsrooms and communities that reveal the deeper truths behind today’s most compelling stories.
